wintry nights in melbourne

It was chilly in Fitzroy last Friday night, but it was perfect for the opening of the Gertrude Street Projection
Festival
. (Fitzroy is an inner city suburb of Melbourne.)  Children and adults – everyone was rugged up. The street buzzed, shop owners offered wine, glühwein and cheese, restaurants and bars were packed.  70 projection artists ‘lit up’ this fun Festival.

Went to a delightful exhibition during the week also, in the gallery space above Chapel off Chapel’s theatre foyer. Catrine Berlatier creates “jewellery” from recycled and salvaged materials (a statement by the artist about unnecessary waste). Using knitting, threading, weaving and crocheting, Catrine’s work is intricate and appealing. And most certainly tactile.
